Kenyan avocado oil, macadamia and dried fruit for Australian importers

Australia is a market for our processed lines, not for fresh Kenyan avocados. This page says plainly what is available, what the importer must check, and how a trial order works. Regulatory notes checked 15 October 2026; the importer remains responsible for confirming current conditions.

Fresh avocados

Why we do not offer fresh Kenyan avocados to Australia

Australia admits fresh avocados only from countries that have completed a biosecurity import risk analysis with the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry. At the time of checking, published import conditions exist for New Zealand and, following the 2019 risk analysis, Chile. Kenya has no such pathway, so no exporter can lawfully ship fresh Kenyan avocados to Australia. We will update this page if that changes; we do not quote fresh fruit for Australia.

Importer checklist

Access conditions and responsibilities for processed products

Biosecurity (BICON)The importer checks the current BICON case for the product (plant-derived oils, processed nuts, dried fruit) before shipment. Highly processed, shelf-stable oil is generally lower risk than nuts or dried fruit, which may need treatment or permit conditions. We provide the processing declaration and production details the case requires.
Imported Food Inspection SchemeFood is inspected under the Imported Food Control Act 1992 on a risk or surveillance basis after biosecurity clearance; expect a visual and label assessment on a sample of consignments and possible analytical testing.
Standards and labelling (FSANZ)Retail packs must meet the Australia New Zealand Food Standards Code: name of the food, lot identification, Australian importer name and address, ingredients, nutrition information panel, allergen declaration where relevant (tree nuts for macadamia), country of origin labelling. We supply artwork data; the importer approves labels.
Testing we provideBatch COA for oil (FFA, peroxide, moisture, impurities, colour, smoke point by ISO and AOCS methods), aflatoxin and moisture results for macadamia on request, and third-party laboratory testing at the buyer's chosen frequency.
DutiesAustralian customs duty on most edible oils and processed fruit is low or zero but is product-specific; we do not assert duty-free treatment. The importer confirms the tariff classification and any concessions.
DocumentsCommercial invoice, packing list, bill of lading, certificate of origin, COA, processing or fumigation declarations as the BICON case requires.

Logistics

Indicative transit from Mombasa

Sea freightMombasa to Fremantle, Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane or Adelaide is typically 25 to 40 days port to port depending on the carrier and transhipment; door delivery adds customs clearance and inland time. Exact schedules are quoted per shipment.
Bulk oilOne 20 ft container carries one food-grade flexitank. Payload is set by the carrier's flexitank policy and the route, normally 20 to 22 tonnes. Flexitank fitting and heating pads where needed are arranged with the carrier.
SamplesOil samples (250 ml to 1 litre per grade) and nut or dried fruit samples by courier within one week of request, with the COA of the lot they come from.
Trial orderTypical first order: one 20 ft container of oil, or a mixed pallet consignment of macadamia and dried fruit. Payment terms are agreed per contract; letters of credit and documentary collection are common for first shipments.
