Collaboration

How institutions can scope an East African agribusiness collaboration

Institutions looking at East African agriculture usually have a mandate and a theme before they have a partner. This guide explains how to move from a theme to a scoped collaboration with an operating business such as Konza Tropicals, without either side over committing before the facts are on the table.

Start with objectives and roles

State what the institution wants to achieve, for whom and by when, and the role you expect of an operating partner: implementer, offtaker, technical assistance provider, supply chain anchor or reference site. Konza Tropicals combines commercial agriculture, export execution, value addition and technical advisory expertise. We work with businesses, financial institutions and development organisations on commercially grounded initiatives that strengthen supply chains, expand market access and create lasting value.

Check the fit early

  • Geography: Konza Tropicals operates in Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Rwanda and Burundi.
  • Value chains: avocados and avocado oil, mango and mango products, dried fruit and chilli, and the export systems around them.
  • Capabilities: commercial agriculture, export execution, value addition and technical advisory.
  • Instruments: commercial contracts, programme agreements, technical assistance contracts, and financing structures agreed with the parties' advisers.

Agree confidentiality before detail

We welcome discussions on complementary capabilities, structured commercial programmes and development collaboration aligned with shared objectives. Project specific information is shared privately where there is a clear basis for cooperation. A short confidentiality agreement at the start lets both sides share operating data, plans and programme documents without hesitation.

Due diligence and visits

Visits to our farm, packing and processing operations in Kenya, meetings with our operating team and agreed data room access are the fastest way to assess an initiative. We expect institutions to carry out their own technical, commercial and legal due diligence, and we support it.

Structure and milestones

Collaboration terms are documented in a written agreement appropriate to the structure, with roles, workplans, reporting and review points. Konza Tropicals does not publish capital requirements or forecast returns, and nothing on this website is an offer of securities or an investment solicitation; any financing or investment arrangement is negotiated and documented separately under applicable law.
