Export markets

Kenyan avocado and fresh produce exporter to Portugal

Portugal grows avocados in the Algarve from autumn to spring and imports the rest of the year, which is exactly when Kenyan Hass is at its peak. We supply Portuguese importers, ripeners and wholesalers at MARL in Lisbon and in Porto with Class 1 Hass and Green skin avocados from April to October, mango, pineapple and passion fruit, and crude and extra virgin avocado oil for Portuguese food and cosmetic companies, through Sines, Lisbon and Leixões.

Buyers

Built for Portuguese importers and the counter season

Portuguese buyers know avocados: Algarve Hass sets the local benchmark from November to April, and importers need a reliable counter season origin that ripens evenly for Continente, Pingo Doce and the wholesale markets through the summer. Kenyan Hass peaks from April to August, and our own 200 hectare plantation and registered partner orchards give us the volume and the dry matter to hold a weekly programme. Independent preloading inspection on every consignment and SAFTA, Fruit Trade Assistance, our partner Sales Execution Office in Antwerp, Belgium, support fixed price programmes and in port assistance in Iberia.

Questions buyers ask

Before you request an offer for Portugal

When does Kenyan Hass complement Algarve production?

Algarve Hass is harvested from about November to April. Kenyan Hass peaks from April to August and continues into October, so a Portuguese importer can run Kenyan fruit through the summer and return to local or Tanzanian fruit in winter.

Which Portuguese port should we use?

Sines and Lisbon serve Lisbon and the south with the shortest transit from Mombasa; Leixões serves Porto and the north. Many Iberian programmes also discharge in Algeciras with road delivery, and we quote whichever you prefer.

Can you label in Portuguese?

Yes. Cartons, nets and consumer trays can be printed with Portuguese language labelling, EAN codes and your private label on programme volumes.

Do you support re export to Angola and Mozambique?

Yes. We prepare the documentation Portuguese importers need for onward sales to Lusophone African markets, and we also ship directly to African importers; see our Africa page.

How do we see the quality before the container sails?

Fruit Quality Studio Africa, the Kenyan arm of Quality Studio Europe, inspects every consignment at the packhouse and issues a preloading QC report on dry matter, defects, sizing and pulp temperature, which we share with you before the vessel departs.

Can you start with a trial order?

Yes. Most programmes for Portugal begin with one container to Sines, or a pallet by air for herbs, chillies and samples, before moving to fortnightly or weekly programme volumes.

Our partners

Independent quality control and transparent trade, built into every shipment

Two partners work alongside our own team on every export programme, so buyers see the fruit before it sails and know the price before they commit.

Fruit Quality Studio Africa

Independent avocado quality control, the Kenyan arm of Quality Studio Europe. Every consignment is inspected at the packhouse before loading, with a preloading QC report on dry matter, defects, sizing and pulp temperature shared with the buyer, and arrival inspection in Europe on request or as agreed per programme.

SAFTA, Fruit Trade Assistance: Sales Execution Office, Antwerp

Our partner Sales Execution Office in Antwerp, Belgium. SAFTA is not a buyer of our fruit: it sells Konza Tropicals avocados on our behalf to retailers, importers and ripeners across Europe and executes each programme from offer to payment, with fixed and transparent pricing, programme contracts, cold chain from packhouse to destination and SAFTA Rescue support for shipments in European ports, so growers and importers both know where they stand.
