Export markets

Kenyan avocado exporter to Russia

Russia is one of the largest avocado import markets outside the EU and North America, supplied through the year by Peru, Israel, South Africa, Colombia and increasingly Kenya. We supply Russian importers, distributors and retail chains in Moscow, St Petersburg, Krasnodar and the Volga cities with Class 1 Hass and Green skin avocados through Novorossiysk on the Black Sea and St Petersburg on the Baltic, and avocado oil, dried mango and macadamia for Russian food, cosmetics and confectionery manufacturers, with Rosselkhoznadzor compliant documentation and payment terms worked out before the first container.

Buyers

Built for Russian importers, distributors and retail chain suppliers

Russian importers want fruit that arrives with ripening time to spare after a long voyage, phytosanitary documentation that satisfies Rosselkhoznadzor at the port, and a supplier who has already worked out how payment will be made and insured. We plan each Russian programme around those three points: harvest maturity and controlled atmosphere set for the route, documents checked against the current import requirements before loading, and payment through banks that process Kenya to Russia trade, agreed in writing before the offer is confirmed. Our own 200 hectare plantation and registered partner orchards give us the volume for weekly programmes, and independent preloading inspection on every consignment gives your quality team the data before the vessel sails.

Questions buyers ask

Before you request an offer for Russia

Which Russian port should we use?

Novorossiysk is the shorter route at 22 to 28 days and serves Moscow, Krasnodar and central Russia by road and rail; St Petersburg at 32 to 38 days serves the north west. We quote both and set harvest maturity and controlled atmosphere for the route you choose.

How do you handle Rosselkhoznadzor requirements?

We check the current import requirements for the Russian Federation before every loading, issue the KEPHIS phytosanitary certificate for Russia, register packhouses where required and send the full document set to your broker before the vessel sails, so there are no surprises at the port.

How is payment made for Kenya to Russia shipments?

Prepayment or a confirmed letter of credit through banks that process Kenya to Russia trade for new buyers, with terms and the banking route agreed in writing before the offer is confirmed; established programmes move to agreed credit terms.

Do you supply avocados to Russia all year?

Kenyan Hass covers April to October and Tanzanian Hass covers November to March from the same team and specification, so Russian importers can run one programme all year, with mango, pineapple and value added products in mixed containers.

How do we see the quality before the container sails?

Fruit Quality Studio Africa, the Kenyan arm of Quality Studio Europe, inspects every consignment at the packhouse and issues a preloading QC report on dry matter, defects, sizing and pulp temperature, which we share with you before the vessel departs.

Can you start with a trial order?

Yes. Most programmes for Russia begin with one container to Novorossiysk, or a pallet by air for herbs, chillies and samples, before moving to fortnightly or weekly programme volumes.
